2007 Napa Valley Mustard Festival

November 29, 2007 – 8:30 am

napa.jpgIn Napa, wild mustard blooms during the end of January and continues through March, blanketing the valley with a golden hue that turned into a golden opportunity in 1993. George Rothwell, president of the Yountville Chamber of Commerce, was asked to research the possibility of holding an annual event during the time of the mustard bloom. This is considered the off season in Napa and the city wanted find a way to bring visitors to the valley when business was too slow.

The concept grew to become a valley-wide promotion with multiple events. The first annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival was held on February 4, 1994. Since, it has become a festival that draws people from around the world. People enjoy amazing food, wine, art, and entertainment. There is a world wide mustard contest as well as a photography contest to partake in.

At the 2007 Napa Valley Mustard Festival, Grey Poupon Harvest Course Ground was awarded a bronze medal! So … it’s not just me who loves this new, brilliantly bold flavor … the rest of the world seems to love it too!

Mustard Seeds … Really?

November 27, 2007 – 12:01 pm

It’s obvious mustard seeds are used in all our favorite Grey Poupon mustards, but I’ve found a few surprising places you can find mustard seeds.

In Cosmetics
I found this product online that’s a grain and mustard seed serum for pampering tired feet. Mustard Seed oil naturally draws blood to the surface of the skin to warm and increase circulation.

In Chocolate Truffles
Many creative chocolatiers produce truffles with exotic flavors such as mustard using mustard seeds for decoration.

In Ice Cream
Oh yes … chefs around world have experimented with savory ice creams including mustard seed ice creams. Hey, I’ll try anything once!

In Ginger Bread Cookies
My favorite ginger bread cookie recipe calls for finely ground mustard seeds. It adds this fabulous spicy kick to the cookies that everyone always raves over.

In Cocktails
Jump over to Grey Poupon’s site and try a few of these yourself.

Grey Poupon Harvest Coarse Ground

A Winning Recipe

harvest.png A true mustard lover will appreciate the delicious, robust flavor that whole grain mustards deliver. Whole-grain mustard retains some un-ground or partially ground mustard seeds. There is something wonderfully rustic and authentic about the grainy texture. Besides being an essential element to a gourmet roast beef sandwich, whole grain mustard is excellent on fish and over sautéed vegetables.

Thanks to the debut of Grey Poupon’s Harvest Coarse Ground, whole grain mustard has been taken to a new level. A Gold Medal winner at the prestigious Napa Valley Mustard Festival, Harvest Coarse Ground is created with flavorful, whole mustard seeds. It has a bold flavor profile that you will definitely enjoy experiencing. Add a little zest to your life … switch it up with Grey Poupon Harvest Coarse Ground Mustard.

P.S. No Rolls Royce necessary to fully enjoy Grey Poupon Harvest Coarse Ground Mustard … or any other delicious Grey Poupon flavors!

Mustard Marriages Sure to Fail

November 23, 2007 – 8:33 am

QUIZ:
Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Cinnamon Waffles, Jell-O, scrambled eggs, caramel, blueberry muffins, M&M’s, most candy, coffee, tea, French Toast, doughnuts, cereal, and fruitcake:

What do all these food have in common? You’ve probably already guessed from the title of today’s blog.

ANSWER:
These are all foods that should never be married with mustard.

True, I am a mustard fanatic, but just as some fashions should never leave the runway, some foods should never mingle with mustard. It’s a tough truth to swallow, I know ☺.

There are also debatable mustard marriages. An executive chef from a hot New York restaurant might swear by his honey mustard lavender ice cream … mustard ice cream you scream? I’m not so sure about that one either. Or dark chocolate mustard truffles? They do exist believe it or not, and I’d probably try one, but I think I prefer to relish my mustard in a slightly more traditional way!

Take the Stress Out of Thanksgiving

November 21, 2007 – 8:31 am

Let’s face it—no matter how much you love the holidays, enjoy cooking and adore your family, the holidays can be just the slightest bit stressful. On top of everything, we all want to make sure we have time to appreciate the ones we love instead of spending the entire time slaving away in the kitchen. Here are a few ways that you can ease the stress and enjoy your Thanksgiving.

history-of-thanksgiving.jpg

First of all, before you do anything else, charge your batteries. Not just your own batteries (yes, an extra nap wouldn’t hurt!), but your video and digital camera batteries as well. That way you’ll have plenty of juice to get you through Thanksgiving Day.

Mustard Friendly Foods

November 19, 2007 – 8:07 am

grill.jpgBeing the dedicated mustard lover that I am, I try to explore all delectable mustard/food combinations possible! This is one reason I’m psyched for the debut of the new Grey Poupon Flavors. Now I have a whole new mustard frontier to explore.

Dijon, Spicy Brown, Savory Honey, or Harvest Coarse Ground, each unique flavor pairs well with different types of food, just like wine. Some foods are simply made to be mustard soul mates. Namely sandwiches, hotdogs, hamburgers, glazed ham, deviled eggs, and potato salad. But let’s think out the mustard jar for a minute. There are, after all, tons of lesser known foods that are just begging to be match with mustard!
