November 29, 2007 – 8:30 am

napa.jpgIn Napa, wild mustard blooms during the end of January and continues through March, blanketing the valley with a golden hue that turned into a golden opportunity in 1993. George Rothwell, president of the Yountville Chamber of Commerce, was asked to research the possibility of holding an annual event during the time of the mustard bloom. This is considered the off season in Napa and the city wanted find a way to bring visitors to the valley when business was too slow.

The concept grew to become a valley-wide promotion with multiple events. The first annual Napa Valley Mustard Festival was held on February 4, 1994. Since, it has become a festival that draws people from around the world. People enjoy amazing food, wine, art, and entertainment. There is a world wide mustard contest as well as a photography contest to partake in.

At the 2007 Napa Valley Mustard Festival, Grey Poupon Harvest Course Ground was awarded a bronze medal! So … it’s not just me who loves this new, brilliantly bold flavor … the rest of the world seems to love it too!
