Grill Master General: The Perfect Match

January 24, 2008 – 9:36 am

I was recently told that the average household has 4-6 bottles of salad dressing, with most being purchased by women. As a guy, I have two: a bottle of Italian for myself, and a bottle of ranch in case some kid comes over and needs to dip carrot in order to make the vegetable palatable.

As a guy, my interest and culinary sophistication is derived from nature.  And by nature, I don’t mean from organic foods or vegetables. I mean meat. Meat that I can cook on my excessively oversized stainless steel grill, or pile so high on a sandwich that even Dagwood Bumstead would be envious. My grilling acumen has even led me to receive the un-official moniker (mostly self claimed) of “Grill Master General”.

Hosting Tips for the Holidays

December 21, 2007 – 8:38 am

gp_butler.jpgCan a movie be made without a director? Would a team play their very best without a coach? My guess is probably not. Well, a party without a host is as good as an orchestra without a conductor. No matter how much you spend on a fancy caterer, valet, and door prizes, nothing makes a party more successful than a talented host. If the host thinks their job is over once the guests arrive, that’s when a party can fall flat. A good host knows how to make guests mingle, meet, eat, drink, and be merry; all without realizing someone (the host) is directing this blissful show. Worried you’re not a naturally gifted host? Luckily, there is very little training required! Read this, heed this, and you’ll be touted “the host with the most,” this season.

Wine Pairings by the Mustard

December 17, 2007 – 10:18 am

wine.jpgPairing wine and mustard can be a tricky task, but well worth the effort! Most mustard, by its very nature, has a somewhat strong, tangy flavor. If you do not choose an appropriate mustard, it will compete with your wine, bowling over any subtle flavor notes that exist in the drink. Follow these basic rules to ensure your wine and mustard stay on friendly terms!
